After a positive reception in theatres, the M. Sasikumar-Simran-starrer Tourist Family is all set for a digital release. The emotional family drama that hit the cinemas on May 1, 2025, Mimi is all set to stream on OTT soon.

Helmed by first time director Abishan Jeesanth, Tourist Family follows the emotional journey of a Tamil family who had to quit Sri Lanka owing to political unrest and the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie is a story of displacement, survival and the family’s struggle at adjusting to life in a new culture in India.

Even as an official announcement from the makers is awaited, sources indicate that Tourist Family will start streaming from May 31  on Jio Hotstar by the end of this month at the benefit of the completion of its four-week theatrical window.

M. Sasikumar is strong as the head of the family and Simran brings a good amount of emotional depth to the story as the stoic mother. The film also has a peppy Yogi Babu for a significant role, inducing timely comic relief to the serious overtones of the film.

Tourist Family has been well received for its grounded storytelling, earnest acting and relevant plot lines. Released along with pricey projects like HIT 3 and Retro, the film made its presence felt by collecting Rs 6.6 crore at the box-office in the first weekend — impressive numbers for a film led by content.

While the crowd is rife with reports that the streaming giant had set May 31 as the date for the digital release, the digital streaming giant or the crew behind the camera haven’t yet made an official statement. Lovers of good cinema and strong performances are already waiting to watch the film on OTT.

Tourist Family is not only a story of migration — it’s a testament to the resilience of familial ties, even in the face of great hardship. Now, with its digital launch around the corner, the film is set to find an even broader audience hungry for emotionally impactful storytelling.
