As excitement builds for the upcoming release of Mission: Impossible – The Last Reckoning, Tom Cruise is set to receive the prestigious BFI Fellowship, the highest honour bestowed by the British Film Institute. This recognition celebrates his outstanding contribution to global cinema and his unwavering dedication to the UK film industry.
The Fellowship will be awarded at the BFI Chair’s Dinner in London on Monday, 12 May, with the event hosted by BFI Chair Jay Hunt. The day before, Cruise will participate in a special In Conversation session at BFI Southbank, where he will discuss his extensive career, including his work on the Mission: Impossible series and his enduring impact on the film industry.
Cruise’s commitment to shooting films in the UK has not only supported the local film industry but also provided opportunities for countless talents across the country. Alumni from the BFI Film Academy and BFI Future Skills Programme have contributed to the production of the last two Mission: Impossible films, further demonstrating Cruise’s dedication to nurturing future talent.
“I am truly honoured by this acknowledgment,” Cruise remarked. “I’ve been making films in the UK for over 40 years and have no plans to stop. The UK is home to incredibly talented professionals—actors, directors, writers, and crews, as well as some of the most stunning locations in the world. I’m grateful for all the BFI has done to support UK filmmaking and this incredible art form we share.”
As Cruise mentioned, his relationship with the UK film industry spans decades, with many of his Mission: Impossible films, including Mission: Impossible 8, being filmed in Britain. His collaboration with the UK has not only showcased its landmarks and cinematic potential but also supported local crews, studios, and locations.
“We are thrilled to be honouring Tom Cruise with a BFI Fellowship,” said Jay Hunt. “Tom has brought so much to the UK, both as a producer and an actor, supporting our film industry while delivering incredible cinematic experiences.”
Mark your calendars for Mission: Impossible – The Last Reckoning, set to release on 23 May 2025 in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, in both 4DX and IMAX formats.
