Denis Villeneuve's much-anticipated next installment in the Dune saga now has an official title — Dune: Part Three.
The project is now formally listed on Rentrak as Dune: Part Three, although previous reports indicated the movie might be called Dune Messiah, after Frank Herbert's 1969 novel from which the plot will be adapted.
Paul "Muad'Dib" Atreides' journey to become emperor will be continued in this chapter, which will examine the political and psychological complexities that accompany having such enormous power. As a crucial continuation of the saga, the movie is anticipated to explore the deeper themes and story arcs introduced in Dune Messiah.
Dune: Part Three will feature scenes shot with IMAX cameras, just like its predecessors, guaranteeing an aesthetically spectacular cinematic experience. It won't, however, be shot entirely in IMAX, unlike Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which is notable for being the first and only film produced entirely with IMAX technology.
Denis Villeneuve has been clear in his vision for the franchise, previously stating that he doesn’t consider Dune: Part Three to be a conclusion to a traditional trilogy. “First, it’s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych,” Villeneuve explained, referring to the first two Dune films.
“It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”

With Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya returning as major cast members, filming for Dune: Part Three is anticipated to start soon. The news that Jason Momoa, who starred in the original Dune movie but did not appear in Part Two, would return for the next installment also excited fans.
As Villeneuve gets ready to add a new narrative chapter to the universe that will be as thought-provoking as it is visually stunning, excitement is growing for Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled for release in theatres in December 2026.
