Tamil director Velu Prabhakaran passes away at 68    

Veteran filmmaker Velu Prabhakaran passed away in Chennai on the morning of July 18 at the age of 68, after battling health issues. He had been receiving treatment at a private hospital for the past few days before he breathed his last.

Renowned filmmaker Velu Prabhakaran passed away on the morning of July 18 in Chennai, following a period of ill health. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital for the past few days. He was 68.

The Tamil film industry is in mourning following his passing, with many members of the fraternity paying tribute to his contributions and expressing their condolences.

Before pursuing a career in acting and directing, Velu Prabhakaran started out as a cinematographer. He established a unique reputation in Tamil cinema thanks to his adaptability and daring storytelling.

The science fiction film Naalaiya Manithan, which he directed for the first time in 1989, became a cult favourite. He went on to direct a number of well-known films over the years, such as Pratachikkaran, Kadavul, Rajali, Asuran, and Shivan.

His passing marks the end of an era, and his work continues to be remembered for its unconventional themes and fearless approach to filmmaking.

He is survived by his wife Shirley das.
