Hit TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has entertained fans over the past 17 years and it has earned die hard fans.
The sitcom's many dialogue mouthed by their famous character Jethalal played by Dilip Joshi or Dayaben (Disha Vakani) have become iconic and also cater to many memes.
But not many know that one dialogue 'Ae Pagal Aurat' said by Jethalal had to be removed from the show.
In the initial years of Taarak Mehta, Jethalal aka Dilip Joshi would many times say 'Ae pagal aurat' (Crazy woman) whenever he got upset with his wife Daya (Disha Vakani).
Dilip Joshi revealed that this dialogue was never a part of the original script but it was an improvisation, which eventually became a meme.
Once in a podcast with Sorabh Pant, Dilip Joshi had talked about how many women groups had opposed to the dialogue and then eventually the makers had to remove it.
“Yeh jo ‘paagal aurat’ wala tha, woh maine improvise kiya. On set koi aise situation aayi thi, the way Daya reacted, toh scene karte karte mere mooh se nikal gaya (I improvised the ‘paagal aurat’ line. There was a situation on the set and the way Dayaben reacted, it slipped out of my mouth while doing the scene).”
And the line actually became a hit and it led to many hit memes. But later he informed that it was removed from the show eventually as a women’s movement took an objection against the dialogue, and said it was demeaning towards women.
Dilip Joshi said, “Baad mein, uspe kuch women’s lib ya koi movement tha, mujhe bataya gaya, ‘Aage se, aap yeh nahi bolenge’ (later, there was some women’s group opposed to the dialogue and I was told never to repeat it again).”
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is still going strong and airs on Sab TV at 8:30 pm daily. Though Disha Vakani has quit the show but die hard fans still love to watch the show for their love for Jethalal, Bhide, Popatlal, Tapu, Gogi, Goli, Sodhi, Babita Ji and others.
