Suniel Shetty shares the unexpected reason behind Athiya Shetty exit from films

Recently, Bollywood veteran Suniel Shetty talked candidly about his daughter Athiya Shetty's choice to give up acting.

The Border actor, stated openly in an interview with Zoom that Athiya has made the conscious decision to leave the movie business.

Suniel recalled the moment his daughter expressed her intent, saying, “She said, ‘Baba, I don't want to,’ and she just left. And that's what I salute her for saying, ‘I'm not interested. I don't want to do films.’”

He went on to share that Athiya had opportunities after her 2019 film Motichoor Chaknachoor opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui, but she wasn’t inclined to pursue them. “After Motichoor Chaknachoor, a lot came her way. 'But I don't want to. I am comfortable, you know?'” he quoted her as saying.

Praising her clarity and courage, Suniel said that Athiya has now embraced what he considers the most fulfilling chapter of her life — motherhood. “And today, she's got the best role of her life. You know, she's working in the best film, and that is the life, the role of a mother and she's loving it,” he added with heartfelt pride.

Hero, a romantic action movie directed by Nikhil Advani and produced by Salman Khan, marked the start of Athiya's cinematic career in 2015.

She then appeared alongside Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, and Ileana D'Cruz in the 2017 family entertainer Mubarakan. She most recently starred in the romantic comedy Motichoor Chaknachoor.

Athiya's personal accomplishments have kept her in the spotlight in recent years. In 2023, she married Indian cricketer KL Rahul in a secret ceremony. On March 24, 2025, the couple welcomed a daughter, Evaarah, into the world.

KL Rahul recently took to Instagram to post a touching photo of the new parents doting on their daughter, writing, “Our baby girl, our everything. Evaarah/इवारा ~ Gift of God.”

Her new chapter as a mother and her graceful departure from films showcase Athiya's changing path, which she seems to be fully embracing.
