Following its theatrical run, the Malayalam horror-comedy Sumathi Valavu, which stars Arjun Ashokan and Gokul Suresh in the lead roles, is scheduled to make its digital debut. The movie, which debuted in theaters on August 1, 2025, will soon be accessible on streaming services.
Where and when to watch
According to the producers, Sumathi Valavu will debut on ZEE5 Malayalam on September 26, 2025. The OTT platform made the announcement with the following caption on its official X (previously Twitter) handle:
"Greetings from Sumathi Valavu... Sumathi Valavu, the year's top horror comedy entertainer, will debut on ZEE5 Malayalam on September 26.
Narrative and motivation
The film centers on a haunted street that is connected to the tragic story of Sumathi, a Tamil woman. According to local legend, her ghost still haunts the area, causing odd and terrifying occurrences.
The legend's mysteries are revealed when a group of young people venture onto this notorious street and are met with a number of terrifying experiences.
It's interesting to note that the film is based on a real-life site in Mylamoodu, Thiruvananthapuram, which has had a similar eerie reputation for a long time. Urban legend claims that in the 1950s, Sumathi, a pregnant woman, was killed there by her lover. Although reports also indicate that criminals once used the haunted story to cover up illegal activity, locals still believe her spirit lingers.
The cast and crew
Saiju Kurup, Balu Varghese, Sshivada, Malavika Manoj, Abhilash Pillai, Joohi Jayakumar, Sidharth Bharathan, Gopika Anil, and Sminu Sijo are among the ensemble cast members of the movie, in addition to Arjun Ashokan and Gokul Suresh.
With music by Ranjin Raj and production by Murali Kunnumpurath and Gokulam Gopalan, Sumathi Valavu was directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar and written by Abhilash Pillai.
