Fashion may be fabulous, but for Suki Waterhouse, it turned painful—literally. The actress and singer shared with fans that she was recently hospitalized due to a hernia, which she claims was caused by wearing overly tight pants. In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter), Waterhouse wrote, “‘suki you never tweet anymore’ have you ever considered I wore pants so tight 6 months ago it caused a hernia & I’ve been too scared to tell you.”
The 33-year-old star didn’t just post words—she included two photos with her tweet. One showed her lying in a hospital bed, wearing a patient gown, a wristband, and earphones, with a vape resting on her chest. A visible cannula inserted into her arm underscored the seriousness of her condition. The second image appeared to be from her Sparklemuffin Tour, which ran from September to December. In that shot, Waterhouse is dressed in a white top and tight green pants, standing under foliage and a disco ball.
A hernia, according to the Cleveland Clinic, “happens in your abdomen or groin, when one of your organs pushes through the muscle or tissue that contains it.” The post sparked plenty of fan reactions, with one user calling her “vape in the hospital” moment “diabolical.” Waterhouse replied with a simple, “so true.”
Despite the health scare, the “Daisy Jones & The Six” actress appears to be on the mend. She’s set to return to the stage on August 8 at the Up In The Sky Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado. This will mark her first performance since the incident.
Waterhouse’s hospitalization comes not long after the release of her second studio album, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin, and a whirlwind tour. Speaking about her album last year, she told Harper’s Bazaar, “Now that the album’s coming out, I want loud accessories… things with sparkles, things with bright colors. That was part of naming the album.”

Outside of her career, she’s also balancing motherhood. Waterhouse and fiancé Robert Pattinson share a one-year-old daughter, whose name they’ve chosen to keep private. “I try my best to shield her,” Waterhouse said in an appearance on Emma Chamberlain’s podcast.
Still, she added with a laugh, “But I also wanna take her for a walk and sit at a café… and someone might take a picture. There are laws, but they go around them.”
