"Charak" is one of the most anticipated films of 2025, with substantial hype since its introduction due to its radical concept and captivating storytelling.

Sudipto Sen made his debut as a producer under his Sipping Tea Cinemas label with this one-of-a-kind folkloric horror mystery thriller, following the success of The Kerala Story.
The film got fantastic reviews at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and continues to amaze audiences during its Cannes 2025 special showing.

Charak was screened in front of a crowded auditorium at Cannes 2025, and the reception has been tremendously favorable. Critics applauded the picture, calling it a fantastic vision from the director. Some observers believe Sudipto Sen is one of India's most promising directors.

Furthermore, in light of Charak's tremendous reception at Cannes, Sudipto Sen said, "I'm thrilled to see Charak receive such a terrific response at Cannes 2025. It is a win for our Indian culture, revealing to the world the strength and relevance of our mythology. The overwhelming reception at Cannes lends even more weight to its thought-provoking subject. Thank you to the entire jury and audience for your love and support.

Furthermore, the Charak tale is based on the darkly intense Charak Puja, which is practiced in portions of Bengal, Bihar, and Odhisa, and it explores how certain erroneous deeds undertaken in the name of devotion can occasionally breach the borders of humanity, verging on evil.

Charak intends to spark conversation about hereditary trauma, blind faith, and the cost of silence in patriarchal society by analyzing the "folklore horror" genre in a new light. Stories with local cultural adaptations, such as Kantara and Charak, are popular across the world.

Shieladitya Moulik directed Charak, which Sudipto Sen produced. Sanjay Halder wrote the narrative. The film is produced by Sipping Tea Cinemas and Sudipto Sen Productions.
