SS Rajamouli shares video of litter trek to Deomali Hill

Noted director SS Rajamouli recently shot a few sequences of his much-anticipated film 'SSMB29' with Priyanka Chopra, Mahesh Babu, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in Koraput, Odisha.

During his brief stay, the Baahubali and Makhi director decided to go for a trek to Deomali, which is Odisha’s highest and most beautiful. Rajamouli also shared the view from the top, which was absolutely breathtaking.

But the director was disheartened to find the trek route to be littered with plastic bottles and food waste.

He shared the video of his trek and then also felt saddened and appalled with the state of the trek route. He showed the video to his over 3.5 million users on Instagram and wrote, "Had an amazing solo trek to Deomali, Odisha’s highest and most stunning peak. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking.

However, it was disheartening to see the trail marred by litter. Such pristine wonders deserve better. A little civic sense can make a huge difference… Every visitor should carry back their waste to help protect these places."

Rajamouli was shooting in Talamali hills in Odisha for 15 days with his three stars, Priyanka Chopra, Mahesh Babu, and Prithviraj.

In fact, Deomali in Odisha is now one of Koraput's most frequented locations. Koraput collector V. Keerthi Vasan told New Indian Express that the district administration has taken special action to reduce waste at the location in response to the site's growing foot traffic.

"At the entry gate, we are collecting Rs 100 as a sanitation security deposit and providing two bags to tourists for them to bring back all the plastic waste. If the visitor deposits the bags, we are returning Rs 100," he said.

The collector further said that regular sanitation exercises are being taken up by local villagers and volunteers.

He also said they are 'thinking of banning single-use plastic in Deomali.'
