South Korean actress Kang Myung Joo, known for her role in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, has tragically died on Thursday. She was 54. The news was confirmed by Kang Myung’s daughter, actress Park Se Young.
According to the reports by multiple South Korean media outlets, Kang Myung died after a courageous battle against cancer. The actress reportedly took her last breath on February 27 at 5:52 pm KST.
The funeral service for Kang Myung will be held at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, with the burial set for March 2. The actress’ family, including her husband Park Yun Hee and daughter, actress Park Se Young, grieve the loss.
Park Se Young paid a tribute to her late mother on her Instagram Stories and wrote, “Mom left on a long journey yesterday afternoon. I would be grateful if you could remember the moments on stage that actor Kang Myung Joo loved and shined in."

Kang Myung Joo was a versatile actress who made a lasting impact in both theatre and television. She made her acting debut in 1992 and her career spanned over three decades. She delivered standout performances in notable plays like Hamlet and Coriolanus. Her talent earned her widespread recognition, and her portrayal of a judge in the hit drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo in 2022 brought her critical acclaim and a new fan base.
Kang Myung Joo's recent performances included her appearances in BEA and 20th Century Blues. Meanwhile, the actress’ final TV appearance was in the 2024 series Wonderful World.
