Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha and husband Zaheer Iqbal have been the centre of attention ever since their marriage in June last year.
Their inter-caste marriage raised eyebrows, and it became a topic of discussion whether Sonakshi was asked to convert.
In a fresh interview with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi revealed that neither she nor her husband Zaheer ever forced their respective religion on each other.
“We were not looking at religion. We are two people in love who wanted to get married, and that’s exactly what we did. He is not enforcing his religion on me. I am not enforcing my religion on him. We never discussed anything about religion. We don't sit and talk. We appreciate and understand each other’s cultures. They follow certain traditions at their home. I follow certain traditions at my house...I respect them and their culture. They respect me and my entire family. That’s how it should be,” she said in the interview.
Sonakshi and Zaheer dated for seven years before tying the knot in June 2024.
Sonakshi and Zaheer got married under the Special Marriage Act and that it was a conscious one.
“The best way to get married was a Special Marriage Act where I, as a Hindu woman, do not need to change my religion and he, as a Muslim man, can remain a Muslim man. And two people in love share a beautiful bond of marriage. It was as simple as that. There was never a question asked... Are you going to convert? We love each other. We are getting married. That was it," she added.
Sonakshi and Zaheer’s wedding in June 2024 marked the beginning of their new chapter together, after years of navigating the ups and downs of a public relationship.
On the work front, Sonakshi was last seen in Kakuda, a film in which she starred alongside Saqib Saleem and Riteish Deshmukh.
Sonakshi is balancing her personal and professional life while enjoying the next phase of her relationship with Zaheer.
