Actress and television icon Shweta Tiwari, who captured hearts with her iconic performance in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, recently talked about her experience as a single mother to actress and up-and-coming talent Palak Tiwari.

Shweta reflected on the principles, discipline, and sense of duty she strove to inculcate in Palak during her independent upbringing in a refreshingly candid conversation on Bharti TV's YouTube channel.

“I wasn’t strict, but there were rules in our house," Shweta stated, explaining her parenting style was firm yet fair.

Recalling Palak’s teenage years, she spoke about enforcing curfews: “If you’ve said you’ll be back by 1 am, then 1 means walking in the door — not leaving the party at 1.”

To ensure her daughter’s safety, Shweta kept contact details of Palak’s friends — and even their mothers. “I’d tell her I won’t call their moms unless your phone is off. But if I can’t reach anyone, I’ll start calling their mothers because they would have the driver’s number."

Concerned about safety, Shweta was particularly mindful of the challenges girls face today. “I was a little scared because she’s a girl and society is weird,” she said. Although Palak doesn’t drink, Shweta remained cautious of others around her. She even tracked Palak’s phone and didn’t allow her to wear makeup before turning 16. Owning a personal phone was also off the table until Palak completed her schooling — a decision rooted in discipline and focus.

“She was given a budget — say, ₹25,000. If she spent ₹30,000, she’d have to compensate by doing household chores.” With a clearly laid out price list, Shweta mentioned, "Cleaning her bathroom earned ₹1000, cleaning the bed ₹500, and washing dishes ₹1000."

Even now, with Palak making a name for herself in the industry with films like The Bhootnii, Shweta remains hands-on with her finances. “I invest most of her money and only allow a certain amount to stay in her account,” she revealed. “She jokes, ‘Mujhe kangaal kar diya, mere paise nikal liye.’ But I tell her, the savings she has now, no one else does.”

From curfews to financial literacy, Shweta Tiwari’s parenting is a balance of care, structure, and foresight — shaping Palak not just as an actor, but as an independent and grounded young woman.
