The release of the much-awaited Shrek 5 has been put back by six months to mid-2027. This is the second time the highly anticipated sequel has been delayed. Shrek 5 will now release on June 30, 2027.
Though fans are upset by this revelation, but it looks like Universal and DreamWorks have made a smart and planned move to make sure the movie does well at the box office.
Shrek 5 was supposed to come out in December 2026, which would have put it in the middle of a busy holiday season where it would have had to compete with big hits like Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday and 20th Century Animation's Ice Age 6.
The new release date puts Shrek 5 in a good position to dominate the summer movie season, which has historically been a great time for animated family films.

The new schedule also puts Shrek 5 little under a week after the much anticipated animated movie Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The main characters that fans love, Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona), will all be back.
Zendaya will also voice a new character in the movie. She will be Shrek and Fiona's daughter and will join the franchise this season.
With this change in release date, it looks more like a smart move by the production house to make sure the movie's comeback is as big as the monster himself.
