Veteran columnist Shobhaa De has joined the growing chorus of praise for Arjun Rampal and his performance in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, a role that is quickly emerging as one of the film’s biggest talking points.
In few but impactful words, Shobhaa De described Rampal as “brilliant,” which is quite pertinent given the expectations from the character. The character was initially played by Akshaye Khanna, who had made a significant impression with his performance in the first film, making Rampal’s entry into the space even more impressive.
In the film Dhurandhar 2, Arjun Rampal takes on the role of Major Iqbal, giving a performance that is as villainous as it is restrained.
He seems to be avoiding the over-the-top expressions that might have made the character come across as less impressive, relying instead on a more restrained and assured screen presence, which seems to be working quite well with the audience.
Audiences across platforms have been repeatedly praising his performance as the standout aspect of the film, with many going so far as to say it is “crackling” with how well he holds the audience’s attention without making any effort to do so. What seems to be working quite well in Rampal’s favor is the fact that he brings the villainy to the character without overplaying it.
While the actor is known for his unconventional choices of roles, Dhurandhar: The Revenge marks another remarkable performance in the actor’s filmography. The accolades received from critics like Shobhaa De, as well as from the general public, have made the actor’s performance a major reason for the public attending the film.

In the meantime, the film is still going strong since its release on March 19. Dhurandhar 2, directed by Aditya Dhar, is getting a lot of praise from the public, critics, as well as celebrities. It is also breaking new records at the box office, including the highest opening day collections for a Bollywood film.
The film has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide and continues its strong momentum. Featuring an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi and Sanjay Dutt, the film remains one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
