Veteran actress Shilpa Shirodkar, known for some of the hit Bollywood films in the 90s, quietly stepped away from the limelight after her 2000 film Gaja Gamini. The actress spoke about her life after leaving the limelight and how she focused in her married life and settled in New Zealand.
Shilpa recently talked candidly about her life after the movie and after getting married to banker Aparesh Ranjit on Gauahar Khan's podcast MaaaNoranjan. After initially relocating to the Netherlands, the couple eventually made New Zealand their home.
She said, “To keep myself busy, I did a hairdressing course in New Zealand. It was something close to my acting career—with makeup and all that. After the course, I worked in a salon for two months."
However, it was becoming difficult for her to manage her newly married life and her hairdresser job due to mismatch in their timings. "We were newly married, and the hairdresser job was very demanding. He (husband Aparesh Ranjit) used to get his offs on weekends, and I was expected to work on those same days. We needed time to get to know each other, and I felt like this wasn’t working for me," she added.
What followed seemed almost cinematic. Wanting to take a different path, she made an unexpected request—she asked him to create her resume. When he asked what to include, she told him to be completely honest and not fabricate anything, even mentioning her SSC failure along with her film work.“For fun, I applied to a few jobs, and went for two interviews on the same day. Like a movie scene, I came back with two appointment letters!" she said.
Life appeared to move on when she eventually accepted a position at Dun & Bradstreet as a credit controller. But things quickly changed again when she found out she was pregnant.

Further sharing about her complicated pregnancy, Shilpa stated, "“I was on insulin three times a day, lost 20 kilos, and smelled like cocoa butter all the time—but it was the best pregnancy ever."
Shilpa made a comeback to acting with the television show Savitri Devi College & Hospital in 2018. She also made a stint in Bigg Boss 18. She will next be seen in the supernatural thriller Jatadhara starring Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha.
