Sheeba Akashdeep reflects on past romance with Akshay Kumar; says, 'Young love is passionate and powerful'

Before tying the knot with Twinkle Khanna in 2001, Akshay Kumar had his fair share of relationships. One such romance was with actress Sheeba Akashdeep, who starred alongside him in the 1992 film Mr Bond. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Sheeba opened up about their past relationship, describing it as a passionate but fleeting chapter in her life.

When asked whether she had dated Akshay, Sheeba took a moment before responding, admitting, “When you are young and working in close proximity, ho jata hai ishq (you fall in love).” She acknowledged that they shared a strong bond, fueled by mutual interests such as fitness and even family connections. Their mothers were friends who often played cards together, further strengthening their initial fondness for one another.

However, their romance didn’t last long. Reflecting on what went wrong, Sheeba stated, “We were both kids. I don’t even talk about it. I find it so funny. What’s there to talk about? It’s been over three decades.” She dismissed the notion of lingering emotions, implying that their youthful relationship was something she had long moved past.

On the subject of staying friends with exes, Sheeba was candid. She believes that when a relationship is built on deep emotions, especially at a young age, it becomes challenging to transition into a friendship afterward. “Young love is very passionate and powerful—it’s like an explosion. When that explosion happens, it has to come down. Friendship doesn’t survive,” she explained. She further added that maintaining a platonic bond after a breakup is only possible with great maturity, which they both lacked at the time.
