The 71st National Film Awards in New Delhi turned into a night Bollywood fans will remember for years. It wasn’t just about the big wins, but also about the tender moments between Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji that had everyone talking.
Both actors picked up their first National Awards on Tuesday, Shah Rukh bagged Best Actor for his role in Jawan, while Rani earned Best Actress for Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.
In one viral clip, SRK is seen gently adjusting Rani’s pallu as it swept across the Vigyan Bhawan floor. In another, he fixes her hair just before she went up on stage.
These small gestures lit up social media, with fans calling it a “Rahul-Tina reunion,” a nod to their iconic pairing in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Rani looked elegant in a brown saree, her pallu flowing dramatically, while SRK brought his trademark charm in a black bandhgala suit accessorised with a silver brooch and sunglasses. The two embraced warmly at the venue, and later, Rani was spotted helping Shah Rukh wear his medal. They clicked selfies together, sealing the moment for fans who have adored their onscreen chemistry in films like Chalte Chalte and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
It wasn’t just their camaraderie that stood out. The evening also celebrated Karan Johar, whose film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani won Best Film with Wholesome Entertainment.
Choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant was recognized for Best Choreography for the energetic track Dhindora Baje Re. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards, and Shah Rukh shared his Best Actor honour with Vikrant Massey, lauded for 12th Fail.
For SRK, the win marked a milestone after three decades in cinema. For Rani, it was long overdue recognition for one of her most emotionally charged performances. And for their fans, the off-screen friendship between Rahul and Tina reminded everyone why some pairings never fade.
Looking ahead, Shah Rukh Khan is preparing for his next project, King, starring alongside his daughter Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Abhishek Bachchan.
