During the WAVES 2025 summit, Bollywood's King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, shared profound thoughts on the often-debated topic of insiders and outsiders in the film industry.
SRK and Deepika Padukone were a part of the session The Journey: From Outsider to Ruler hosted by Karan Johar.
With his characteristic wit and wisdom, SRK addressed the concept of belonging in an industry that frequently distinguishes between those with established roots and newcomers trying to make their mark.
“I would like to clarify, hunger are lofty words. I have a problem with the distinction of insider and outsider,” Shah Rukh Khan began, setting the tone for an enlightening discussion. His words struck a chord as he emphasised that the real issue is not the labels we assign to individuals but the internal drive to carve out one’s own space.
He continued, “It is important how to make space in any world (Industry). If you pity yourself then you will not be able to make way into the industry.”
According to him, the key to success is not about lamenting over one's position but about taking charge and asserting one's presence in the space they aspire to be in.
“No world gives a damn about you,” SRK further remarked, reinforcing the idea that the world will not hand you a space on a silver platter. Instead, it is up to the individual to create that space with passion, determination, and perseverance.

Reflecting on his own journey, Shah Rukh recalled, “When I came to the film industry, I believed this is my world and the industry embraced me with open arms.”
Shah Rukh Khan’s words at WAVES 2025 were a testament to his resilience and belief in the power of self-empowerment, leaving an inspiring message for those looking to carve their own paths in the world.
