Sanya Malhotra continues to captivate audiences not only with her stellar performances on screen but also by sparking meaningful conversations off-screen. Recently, the actress shared her thoughts on the importance of life skills, particularly the ability to manage a home and share household responsibilities equally.
Speaking candidly about her personal journey of living independently, Sanya revealed how this experience taught her essential lessons in financial independence and gave her a deeper understanding of the roles her parents play within the family structure.
In a recent interview, she reflected on the valuable insights she gained from living alone.
"Everyone should experience living alone. It teaches you financial independence, and through that, you begin to understand where your parents are coming from. Managing finances made me realize the weight of my father's responsibilities. It made me see why dads sometimes feel anxious. I feel like while patriarchy often places immense pressure on moms, there’s also a lot of pressure on dads to perform in a certain way. It’s something I never fully understood until I started managing things on my own," she explained.
Sanya's reflection also connects to her role in the film Mrs., where she plays Richa, a young woman whose aspirations of becoming a professional dancer are overshadowed by the overwhelming expectations of marriage. As Richa steps into the traditional role of the dutiful wife, managing the household and cooking, the societal pressures become more apparent, revealing a stifling patriarchal environment.
Through this portrayal, the film highlights the emotional and societal toll such expectations place on women and how Richa finds the courage to reclaim her voice and chase her dreams once again.
Mrs is currently streaming on Zee 5. The film offers a poignant commentary on gender roles and personal freedom, making it a must-watch.
