Sankranthi 2026: All set for a massive box office game as Chiranjeevi, Prabhas and Thalapathy Vijay clash with each other
The Raja Saab may now hit screens on January 9, 2026, eyeing the lucrative Sankranthi window. However, it faces tough box office competition from Akhanda 2, Jana Nayagan, and Chiranjeevi’s #Mega157.
Continued post-production work is causing yet another delay in Maruthi's eagerly awaited Prabhas film, The Raja Saab. Initially scheduled for release on April 10, 2025, the movie was initially rescheduled for December 5. According to recent reports, however, the producers are now considering a Sankranthi 2026 release date of January 9.

There is fierce competition even though the Sankranthi slot machine has a huge box office advantage. Three major releases are anticipated to conflict with Prabhas' film: Nandamuri Balakrishna's Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, Thalapathy Vijay's farewell film Jana Nayagan, and Chiranjeevi's untitled film with Anil Ravipudi (#Mega157).

With its promise of crowded theaters and enormous ticket sales, Sankranthi has long been one of the biggest celebration windows for South Indian cinema. However, a four-way matchup might drastically split attendance, which would put pressure on each movie to produce engaging material and generate a lot of buzz.

Meanwhile, The Raja Saab is one of Prabhas' most costly films to date, with a reported budget of Rs 450 crore. Given the significant amount of money that is pumped into the making of these films, the filmmakers seem confident enough in the film's content to take the chance of releasing it alongside well-known actors.
