  • Prashant Tamang's death leaves key scenes unfinished
  • Makers may recast or use AI to complete Tamang's role

Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi, which was earlier known as Battle of Galwan, has hit an unexpected roadblock, and its release is now likely to be delayed.

The setback comes after the sudden passing of actor-singer Prashant Tamang, who played a crucial role in the film. What was once expected to arrive in cinemas in early April is now facing uncertainty as the team works through both emotional and practical challenges.

Prashant Tamang, best known for winning Indian Idol 3, was cast as the main antagonist and had already shot a portion of his role before his death in January.

However, several key scenes were still left to be filmed, many of which are essential to the storyline. His absence has not only left a gap in the narrative but has also deeply affected the team working on the project.

As per a report by India Today, the makers had planned multiple schedules around Prashant Tamang’s availability, especially for important sequences. "The team had a couple of planned schedules where Prashant had to shoot some really key scenes. With him gone, the team is absolutely in crisis." The source mentioned.

"Close-ups could still be managed, but he was also part of extensive action sequences. It would not only be financially unviable but also a logistical nightmare," the source added.

On top of that, coordinating Salman Khan’s dates again and ensuring consistency in the visuals adds another layer of complexity.

The team is now carefully considering their options—whether to recast the role or use AI and VFX to complete Prashant Tamang’s unfinished scenes. The latter, however, would require permission from his family, making it a sensitive decision.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and also starring Chitrangda Singh, Maatrubhumi carries the tagline ‘May War Rest In Peace,’ hinting at a deeper message beyond its action backdrop.

While there is no official update on a new release date yet, there is speculation that the makers might aim for an Independence Day release, depending on how things move forward.
