The Mumbai Police have officially opposed the bail plea of Shariful Fakir, the accused in the stabbing attack on Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence. The incident, which left the actor severely injured and requiring two surgeries at Lilavati Hospital, left the industy shocked.
According to India Today, the police have revealed major updates in the case, stating that they now possess substantial evidence directly linking Shariful to the attack. They disclosed that a knife fragment recovered from Saif’s spine during surgery matched pieces found both at the crime scene and in the accused’s possession. Forensic Science Laboratory testing at Kalina has confirmed it was the same weapon used in the brutal assault.
Authorities also raised objections to granting bail, citing that Shariful, also known as Shehzad, is an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh and poses a high flight risk. They warned he may tamper with evidence, influence witnesses, or even commit another offense if released.
CCTV footage shows the accused in the act and fleeing the scene. Facial recognition verified his identity, and he later led police to the source of the weapon. Digital evidence, including call logs, mobile tower data, and documents found on his seized phone, confirm his Bangladeshi nationality. Forensic examination of the device is still underway.
The police collected blood-stained clothing of Saif, his attendant Hari, and other staff members for chemical analysis.
Despite the defense claiming that the investigation is complete and the arrest process was flawed, the prosecution argues that the evidence is overwhelming and sensitive. The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 9.
