Saif Ali Khan who was stabbed multiple times in his Bandra apartment, allegedly by a Bangladeshi national who entered the residential building after scaling the compound wall has been discharged after his surgery and is back home with the family.

According to Mumbai Police, the security guards on duty were asleep during the early hours of January 16, allowing the intruder to gain access without being detected.

The attacker, identified as 30-year-old Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, also known as Vijay Das, stabbed Saif inside his 12th-floor apartment in the Satguru Sharan building located in Bandra. The 54-year-old actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for multiple stab wounds.

The Mumbai Police reconstructed the crime scene on Tuesday to trace the sequence of events. A police official disclosed to PTI, “Both security guards in the building were asleep when the attacker scaled the boundary wall and entered the premises. The lack of CCTV cameras at the building’s main entrance and corridors further facilitated the intrusion.”

The accused took measures to avoid detection by removing his shoes, placing them in a bag, and switching off his phone before entering the premises. Investigators found one guard asleep inside the security cabin and the other near the gate. The absence of proper surveillance was a glaring security lapse.

Authorities have taken the accused to multiple locations connected to the case, including places he visited before and after the attack. These include locations where he ate, changed clothes, and boarded a train. Fakir, originally from Bangladesh’s Jhalokathi district, had been living in Mumbai for over five months, taking up odd jobs through a housekeeping agency.

Currently, Fakir is in police custody, as per court orders for five days as the investigation continues. Inspector Ajay Lingnurkar has been appointed as the lead investigator.
