A Mumbai court has extended the police custody of Mohammed Shariful Islam, the man accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, until January 29. Islam, who was arrested on January 19, allegedly attacked Saif Ali Khan during a failed robbery attempt at the actor’s Bandra residence on January 16.
The Bandra Court extended Islam’s custody after noting that there had been significant progress in the investigation.
The initial five-day remand period for Islam ended, and the court agreed to give the police more time to gather additional evidence. Mumbai Police asked for the extension, citing the need to investigate possible accomplices and Islam’s lack of cooperation in finding the weapon used in the attack.
According to reports, Islam, believed to be from Bangladesh, tried to steal from Khan’s home. When Khan confronted him, Islam allegedly stabbed the actor multiple times, injuring his thoracic spine and other parts of his body. Following the attack, Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Fortunately, he was discharged from the hospital on January 21, a few days after the incident.
The court also directed the police to continue exploring other important aspects of the case. The investigation is still ongoing, and police are working to determine if there were any other people involved in the attack. The case has drawn attention due to the severity of the attack on a well-known celebrity and the details surrounding the attempted robbery.
