Director Rohit Shetty had worked with Shah Rukh Khan in 2013 in Chennai Express, which was one of Bollywood's biggest hits.
However, their second collaboration, Dilwale, underperformed at the domestic box office, creating speculation of a rift between the celebrity and the successful filmmaker. Rohit Shetty has finally addressed the rumours and set the record straight.
Rohit denied any rift in an open chat with Komal Nahta on his Game Changers podcast. "Nahi aisa kuch nahi," he insisted, rejecting any ill blood between himself and Shah Rukh.
He went on to recount the events after Dilwale. "Ek respect hai humare beech me, aur Dilwale ke baad ye hua ki instantly phir humne humare khud ki production house. Humne decision kiya, hum khud ki filmein banayenge. Agar loss bhi hai to humara ho, jabki loss na hua tha."
While the film had a mediocre reception in India, Rohit noted that Dilwale did admirably outside. For reference, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan produced the film under their Red Chillies Entertainment company.
Rohit spoke talked about his strong personal ties in the industry, saying that his friendship with Ajay Devgn is like that of an elder brother. He has also been close to stars like as Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone over the years.
Rohit lauded Deepika's professionalism and dedication to her art, sharing a scene from the set of Singham Again.
"She shot the final schedule of Singham Again while she was four months pregnant," he said. He continued: "Relations like these are rarely made."
Shah Rukh Khan is prepping for his forthcoming film King, which will be his first on-screen collaboration with daughter Suhana Khan. Siddharth Anand directed the film, which also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Abhay Verma in prominent parts.
Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty is working on Singham Again, the second installment in his smash cop universe, which would have a star-studded ensemble cast.
