Robert Pattinson has given fans a glimpse into what to expect from The Drama, and if his words are anything to go by, Zendaya’s performance is going to catch people completely off guard.

The film brings Robert Pattinson and Zendaya together as an engaged couple who seem perfectly in love—at least on the surface. But just a week before their wedding, everything begins to unravel.

One unexpected confession, made during a drunken game of What’s The Worst Thing You’ve Ever Done, turns their relationship upside down and forces them to confront truths they weren’t ready for.

Zendaya plays Emma Harwood, a literary editor whose revelation sets off a chain of doubt, confusion and emotional tension. It’s not just about what she says—it’s about what it does to the relationship.

Talking about the script, Robert Pattinson admitted he was hooked from the start. “I knew Zendaya was already attached when I read the script, and when I found out the secret, my reaction was, ‘Wow, this is going to be crazy when people see her do this,’” he said, clearly excited about the twist.

While the film has moments of humour, it also leans heavily into the uncomfortable side of love—the kind that doesn’t get talked about enough. Zendaya reflected on this emotional complexity, saying, “To me, this movie is really about what you are willing to accept for love and poses the question, ‘Is love unconditional?’”

She connected it to real life in a way that feels relatable, adding, “In my real life, what this movie has reminded me about love is: if you feel safe with someone, if you feel known by someone, and you feel seen by someone, then you feel like you can tell them everything. And that’s the hope, right? To be with someone you can be your whole and true self with and they will love every part of that.”

Director Kris Borgli seems to have struck a careful balance—keeping the film entertaining while letting that tension quietly build underneath. Robert Pattinson described it best: “Kris manages to ride this line of making the movie feel funny, accessible, and romantic but it also feels dangerous, which is great. Hopefully it will get people talking.”
