At the Rising Bharat Summit 2025, actor Nushrratt Bharuccha addressed the growing concern around the misuse of artificial intelligence, especially deepfake technology targeting celebrities. With the recent surge in AI-generated content misrepresenting public figures, her words struck a chord with many.
“It is scary, I rely on cyber crime,” Nushrratt said firmly, highlighting how helpless many feel when dealing with such sophisticated tech misuse.
Referring to the viral deepfake of Rashmika Mandanna, she added, “Rashmika… and that’s unreal. At different ages, women keep having something or the other to deal with, but when it comes to deep AI, it’s a world I don’t understand.”
She admitted to feeling overwhelmed by the pace of technological advancement and the complexity of the problem. “I wasn’t born into it. I have not studied it. If you ask me, I have no idea. I don’t have a set course of steps or action to take to be able to deal with it,” she said candidly.
Acknowledging the rapid digital growth, she pointed out, “We are in a time and space where the internet is booming so much, technologies are booming so much,” emphasizing that individuals, especially in the public eye, are left vulnerable.
In a clear appeal for institutional support, Nushrratt stated, “In a situation like this, I feel if you personally ask me, I would want to rely on cybercrime… on people to help me understand it, stop it, to find the culprit.” She expressed hope for stronger frameworks and faster responses to digital threats: “I need that support, and I hope we are going to have that.”
