At the Rising Bharat Summit 2025, actor Kajol took the stage with grace and honesty, offering her candid perspective on the evolving landscape of Indian cinema. She reflected on how the rise of OTT platforms has transformed the opportunities available to actors, calling it a “fabulous time for actors.”
Kajol emphasised how the industry has become more inclusive and open-minded. “We are getting a lot of roles which are not age specific. You don’t have to look a particular way, it has to do with your talent,” she said, adding that platforms today allow actors to explore a broader range of characters than ever before. “You can do a variety of roles now,” she noted, highlighting how performance and authenticity have taken center stage over glamor.
Touching upon her stance on awards, Kajol shared a refreshing view. “Maine awards ko itni importance nahi di, isliye mujhe offer nahi hue. I feel awards are momentary. You have to satisfy yourself,” she remarked. Her words reflected her long-held belief that personal satisfaction in one’s craft outweighs external validation.
When asked about missed opportunities, Kajol didn’t hesitate to acknowledge that “Gadar was never offered to me,” and while there were “a lot of films offered to me,”she chose not to name them, maintaining her dignity and professionalism.
Kajol also addressed her absence from Bollywood’s infamous inner circles. “I am not on the WhatsApp group and I don’t plan to be. I am enjoying working and you will respect me more when you grow up, so I’m waiting for them to grow up,” she said with a chuckle, pointing to her individualistic approach and belief in earning respect through work, not networking.
In a heartfelt moment, Kajol concluded, “It really has to do with your talent and it really has to do with you know the kind of work. You can do a variety of work right now and still be you.”
