Prime Video India has announced the exclusive streaming premiere of the award-winning coming-of-age film Girls Will Be Girls, set to release on December 18. This film, an Indo-French joint production, has received global recognition and is expected to captivate audiences in India as well.

Prime Video India has announced the exclusive streaming premiere of the award-winning coming-of-age film Girls Will Be Girls, set to release on December 18. This film, an Indo-French joint production, has received global recognition and is expected to captivate audiences in India as well.

Produced by Richa Chadha, Claire Chassagne, and Shuchi Talati under the banners of Pushing Buttons Studios, Dolce Vita Films, and Crawling Angel Films, Girls Will Be Girls marks the first production from Pushing Buttons Studios, which is co-founded by Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal. Ali Fazal also serves as the executive producer. Directed and written by Shuchi Talati, the film introduces debutant actors Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron in the lead roles, alongside acclaimed actress Kani Kusruti in a pivotal role.

The film premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, where it won several awards, including the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic category. It also received accolades like the Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles, Best Film at the Jakarta International Film Festival, and the Transilvania Trophy at the Transilvania International Film Festival. In addition to Sundance, Girls Will Be Girls has been showcased at other renowned festivals such as TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), Cannes 2024, and the Berlin International Film Festival. Its Indian premiere took place at the MAMI Film Festival in Mumbai.

Girls Will Be Girls is a deeply emotional and impactful film that explores the struggles of adolescence through the female gaze. The story revolves around 18-year-old Mira, who faces emotional turmoil as she navigates the complexities of coming of age. The film portrays Mira’s rebellious journey intertwined with her mother’s own unfulfilled coming-of-age story, highlighting the inter-generational conflicts and societal pressures women face.

The film’s storytelling is rich and engaging, with a unique perspective that has resonated with audiences worldwide. The trailer gives a captivating look into the narrative, giving viewers a glimpse into Mira’s world. As the film explores themes of self-discovery, dreams, aspirations, and emotional challenges, it is expected to connect with many young adults and others who have experienced similar struggles.
