Vijay Sethupathi has officially joined the cast of Arasan, one of Tamil cinema's most anticipated films. The movie is directed by Vetri Maaran and stars Silambarasan TR (Simbu). The movie is part of Vetri Maaran's growing Vada Chennai universe, which already has a large fan base.
On Tuesday, producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu confirmed the exciting news by putting out a special poster welcoming the famous actor. The poster said, "Welcome on board Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi," and Thanu added the caption, "Manidham inaigiradhu, magathuvam therigiradhu" (Humanity bonds, greatness is recognized). Fans were very excited.
This is the second time Vetri Maaran and Sethupathi have worked together since the Viduthalai movies. Sethupathi and Silambarasan TR have worked together before in Mani Ratnam's stylish crime drama Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, which makes their reunion even more exciting for fans.
Vetri Maaran made it clear earlier this year that Arasan is not a direct sequel to Vada Chennai. However, it is set in the same fictional world and is expected to explore another part of the gritty North Chennai world that the first movie introduced.
There are also rumors that Andrea Jeremiah, who played Chandra in Vada Chennai, might play the same role again. There are also rumors about director Nelson Dilipkumar and actor Manikandan being involved, but there hasn't been an official cast list released yet that goes beyond Sethupathi and Silambarasan.
Filming for Arasan started a few weeks ago and is going well. Kalaipuli S. Thanu is producing the movie under the V Creations label. Anirudh Ravichander wrote the music for the movie, which is expected to be one of its best parts. Fans have already set high expectations for the new promo teaser that just came out.
Arasan is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases in Tamil cinema. It has a great cast and two great actors working together.
