Renowned theatre artist and filmmaker Yashwant Sardeshpande passed away at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack in Bangalore.

Popular theatre artist and filmmaker Yashwant Sardeshpande passed away on Monday morning after suffering a heart attack. He was 60.

The veteran theatre artist was in Dharwad on Sunday morning, where he performed a play. He arrived in Bangalore on Monday morning and was later rushed to the Fortis Hospital due to the attack. He passed at 10 am on September 29.

Who was Yashwant Sardeshpande?

Yashwant Sardeshpande was born in Ukkali village in Basavana Bagevadi taluk of Bijapur district in Karnataka. He pursued a diploma in theatre arts from Ninaasam Theatre Institute in Heggodu.

The veteran filmmaker later earned a certificate course in cinema and drama writing from the prestigious New York University in 1996.

He was known as 'Nageya Sardar' by Shimogga theatre lovers. He was well-known for his talent and hard work. He wrote and acted in the well-known and highly successful play All the Best. He had also worked in television and film.

Yashwant Sardeshpande’s wife, Malathi, is a well-known artist in the theatre and movie industries.

The veteran artist has directed over 60 plays. The majority of his plays ran for more than 500 performances.

All The Best, Rashichakra, Olave Jeevana Shakshatkara, Neenaanaadre Naaneenena, Sahi Ri Sahi, Ondata Bhatraddu, Andhayuga, Sahebaru Baruttare, Miss Point, Dil Mange More, and Hingadre Dot Comedy are a few of his well-known pieces of Yashwant Sardeshpande.

The veteran filmmaker directed and prepared programs for television and radio. He was proficient in the comedy genre.

Yashwant Saradeshpande has received praise and acknowledgement for his efforts. He had received Karnataka’s highest honour Rajyotsava Award he received in 2010.  In Karnataka, it is the highest civilian honour.

He had also earned the Sunfeast-Udaya Award in 2006 for Best Dialogues for the Rama Shama Bhama film, the Aryabhatta Award in 2003, the Mayur Award in 2005, the Abhinaya Bharati Award in 2008, the Rangadhruva Award in 2008, and the Globalman International Award in 2008.
