With consecutive releases in Chhaava, Sikandar, Thamma, and now The Girlfriend, Rashmika Mandanna is having an amazing 2025. Penned and directed by Rahul Ravindran, the film opened in the theatres with modest numbers.
According to an early estimation by a trade website, The Girlfriend earned around Rs 1.30 crore (98 lakhs) net in India on its first day for all languages. The film registered an overall 16.90% Telugu and 6.89% Hindi Occupancy on Friday.
The Girlfriend’s opening day box office collection is the lowest of Rashmika’s movies released in 2025. Thamma was released during Diwali and brought in Rs 24 crore net in India on its opening day.
The Girlfriend, on the other hand, was released with significantly fewer promotions and no holiday. However, the film is expected to see a surge during the weekend.
The Girlfriend features an ensemble cast including Dheekshith Shetty, Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini.
The film revolves around a young woman who explores love, compatibility and self-discovery during college, experiencing relationship complexities and personal growth.

The Girlfriend Review
According to Moneycontrol, an excerpt of The Girlfriend review reads, “This is every girl’s story and of a woman who cannot and is not allowed to speak for herself. A woman who is suppressed by the patriarchy and one of the ones who just cannot raise their voice and let men abuse them. Rahul Ravindran has written an excellent story that is so much needed in the current generation. His take on modern relationships and why it is important for women to have the freedom of taking decisions for themselves, education, financial independence and most importantly, confidence is more than just amazing.”
