After the failure of Mithra Mandali, Priyadarshi Pulikonda is back on the big screen in Premante, a romantic crime comedy with Kayal Anandhi as the main female character. The movie comes out today and is directed by first-time director Navaneeth Sriram.
This is a new way to look at how it lands. Story Madhusudhana Rao (Priyadarshi) and Ramya (Anandhi) get married after they both like each other, and for the first three months, their life seems perfect. All of a sudden, Ramya learns something shocking about her husband that makes her lose faith in him.
She wants to go, but she gives him one final chance. After something else unexpected happens, she makes a stunning choice that leaves him confused. What makes Ramya make such a big decision? Who is Madhusudhana Rao, really? And what role does head constable Asha Mary (Suma) have in all of this? The story reveals the answers.
Performances and analysis: Priyadarshi goes back to what he knows best, and his timing for humor is perfect. His moments are funny and help him get back on track after his last failure. Kayal Anandhi goes from being gentle and subtle to becoming more complex and unpredictable, which makes the story more interesting.
The two have a believable chemistry, especially in the early parts where they have happy marriage moments and warmth. Suma gets a full-on comedy part and does a great job, with Vennela Kishore as a great partner. The funny lines between the two of them bring the script to life. The supporting cast does a good job.
What works and what doesn’t
The first half keeps things interesting by balancing romance and humor, and it ends with a promising twist before the break.
The second half slows down and doesn’t add anything to the tale. The speed lowers a lot. The writing gets worse as the story goes on, relying on easy fixes and movie liberties instead of great plotting. The parts of the heist that are funny don’t make sense. Suma’s comedy track starts to feel like it’s going in circles because some moments aren’t well crafted.
Sadly, Hyper Aadhi and Ram Prasad are not used well. The emotional parts don’t feel real and seem forced.
Navaneeth Sriram has the potential to be a good director since he has a clear vision, but he has trouble with pacing and depth in the second half. His next endeavors could be stronger if he wrote better. The movie looks great because to Vishwanath Reddy’s cinematography. Leon James’ music is nice and makes the happy parts even better. The wedding song stands out, although the background music can be too much at times.
Raghavendra Thirun’s editing is sharp at first, but it gets less precise afterward. The Final Decision Premante has a good mix of romance and comedy, and the actors Priyadarshi, Anandhi, Suma, and Vennela Kishore all do a great job.
Verdict:
The first half is fun, but the second half is uneven, the narrative is predictable, and there are logical problems that keep it from being fully rewarding. Premante can be an okay movie to see if you just want to laugh and have fun. Just keep your expectations in check and don’t mind the plot holes.
An okay entertainment that makes you chuckle but doesn’t go very deep.
