Musician Raghu Dixit is stepping into a new season of life — one filled with quiet joy, love, and a little surprise. The much-loved frontman of The Raghu Dixit Project has confirmed he will be marrying singer and Grammy-nominated flautist Varijashree Venugopal this month.
The couple, who have kept their relationship largely out of the limelight, will tie the knot in a small, private ceremony attended by close friends and family. The date and venue are still under wraps, but the emotions are very much on display.
In a heartfelt chat with Bangalore Times, Raghu, 50, spoke openly about how unexpected this journey has been for him. “I honestly did not see this coming. I had prepared myself to be single and alone for the rest of my life, but life had other plans,” he said.
“What began as a strong friendship naturally evolved into love and companionship. We share similar interests and connect deeply. With the blessings of Varijashree’s parents, we are excited to begin this new chapter of our lives together,” he added.
Fans may recall Raghu calling Varijashree his “friend” in a February Instagram post when celebrating her Grammy nomination for her work with Jacob Collier. “@varijashree, a truly path-blazing artist from Bengaluru, whom I am very proud to call my friend…” he had written at the time — a hint, perhaps, of what was quietly blooming behind the scenes.
Varijashree, 34, is a standout talent in the indie music space, known for her Carnatic-jazz fusion style. Daughter of musicians HS Venugopal and TV Rama, she has worked with ensembles like Snarky Puppy and the EYM Trio, carving out a niche of her own.
Raghu was previously married to dancer Mayuri Upadhya and they got divorced in 2019.
