    Kalamkaval Twitter review: Netizens not happy with Mammootty starrer suspense-thriller; write, "Good but not 'absolute cinema'"

    According to the makers, Kalamkaval follows what begins as a routine Kerala Police inquiry in the quiet village of Kottayikonam.

    Malayalam crime thriller Kalamkaval, starring Mammootty and Vinayakan, released in theatres on December 5. The film also features Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, and Rajisha Vijayan in key supporting roles.

    Even before its release, Kalamkaval had been generating considerable online chatter, and now that the film is screening across theatres, social media—especially X (formerly Twitter)—is filling up with early viewer reactions. More responses are expected to pour in over the next few hours and days.

    One viewer rated the film 2.5 stars, pointing out issues with visuals and editing, "Watched #KalamKaval Usual Cat & Mouse Thriller which highly relies on #Mammootty's performance. Vinayakan miscast. Gripping only at parts. Superb BGM. Poor Visuals. Non-linear editing gud at parts, bt the overuse of intercuts in the 2nd half were unnecessary. ABOVE AVERAGE 2.75/5"

    Another user praised Mammootty’s performance but felt the writing could have been stronger, "#Kalamkaval is good but not 'absolute cinema' as we all wanted it to be. The lead characters shine especially #Mammootty. If some of the writing and staging choices had been better, it would have been a great experience. Still a solid watch. Always a treat to watch Mammukka."

    Some viewers, however, thoroughly enjoyed the film, calling it suspenseful and engaging, with special appreciation for Mammootty, "A solid thriller that is so intriguing, often sending chills down the spine with solid investigative episodes. The mystery works so well with a couple of twists and turns. #Mammooty is so good with the dialect and he does incredibly well alongside #Vinayakan. The second half takes away the pace a bit down but the dark tone of the film is intact and dramatically mesmerising as a whole."

    Another fan declared it a must-watch thriller, "#Kalamkaval 5/5. A gripping thriller that keeps you on edge, delivering spine-tingling investigative moments. The mystery unfolds with twist after twist, pulling you deeper into its dark, atmospheric world.. A Must Must Must Watch."

    Some reactions mentioned that while the climax could have been better, the film remains a decent watch overall.

    According to the makers, Kalamkaval follows what begins as a routine Kerala Police inquiry in the quiet village of Kottayikonam. However, the investigation quickly spirals into a deeper web of disturbing cases as minor clues unravel long-buried mysteries. As the officers pursue the truth, they encounter multiple obstacles while connecting past unsolved incidents.

    The film is directed by debutant Jithin K. Jose, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jishnu Sreekumar. Kalamkaval is produced by Mammootty Kampany.
