Jatadhara movie review: Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha's supernatural fails to impress

Jatadhara doesn't do a good job of making a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat. But despite that one of the best parts is Sonakshi Sinha's performance as a demoness from myth.

Jatadhara

Jatadhara is a supernatural mystery thriller that tries to mix Indian folklore with modern ideas. Venkat Kalyan and Abhishek Jaiswal directed the movie, which is Sonakshi Sinha's first Telugu movie.

It was filmed in both Telugu and Hindi at the same time. Even though it has a good idea, Jatadhara doesn't do a good job of making a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The Plot

Shiva (Sudheer Babu) works for a company during the day and hunts ghosts with his friends at night. He thinks that fear, not supernatural forces, is what really hurts people. Shiva has dreams of a child being attacked over and over again. He soon learns that his fate is linked to Dhana Pisaachini (Sonakshi Sinha), a mythological demoness who is known to protect wealth. Shiva finds shocking things about his past that change the course of his life as he learns more about it. A fight between fate, belief, and the supernatural follows.

Analysis and performances

Sudheer Babu once again proves how dedicated he is as a performer. The actor is sincere in every frame, whether it's the physical change, the emotional intensity, or the dance scenes. Even though the script doesn't support his potential, his effort is clear.

Sonakshi Sinha makes a strong first appearance in Telugu cinema, mostly in the second half. She plays Dhana Pisaachini with grace and strength, which makes the story more elegant than it would be otherwise. Her calmness and presence on screen add some weight to the events.

What works and what doesn't

The movie is held together by Sudheer Babu's performance. One of the best parts is Sonakshi Sinha's performance as a demoness from myth. Putting together old stories with modern supernatural stories is a new idea on paper.

Jatadhara has an interesting idea based on Indian mythology, but the way it is done is very bad. The screenplay is all over the place and doesn't build tension or interest. The first half is especially disjointed, with scenes that don't make sense, a forced romantic subplot, and an out-of-place item number that ruins the mood.

Even though the story tries to speed up in the second half, it stays on the surface and never goes into the folklore or emotional core. The climax, which should have brought everything together, is rushed and doesn't work.

The technical parts don't help either. The movie looks old because the visual effects are weak, the editing is bad, and the cinematography is uninspired. The music team's background score and songs don't make key moments more powerful, so the overall effect is small.

Technical Details

Direction: The directors don't make the story come together or keep you on the edge of your seat. Cinematography works, but isn't very interesting. Forgettable music and BGM. VFX is not upto the mark. Especially in the important supernatural scenes.

Verdict:

Jatadhara had everything it needed to be an interesting supernatural mystery: an ambitious idea, good leads, and a strong mythological base. Sadly, the poor direction, lack of emotional depth, and sloppy technical execution make it a boring and disappointing movie to watch.

Cast: Sudheer Babu, Sonakshi Sinha Director: Venkat Kalyan, Abhishek Jaiswal Producer: Prerna Arora Rating: 2/5
