For Anudeep KV, Funky feels less like just another release and more like a necessary turning point. After the runaway success of Jathi Ratnalu, expectations around the director skyrocketed, but the films that followed failed to recreate that magic.
Now, with the pressure to bounce back firmly in place, Anudeep KV has teamed up with Vishwak Sen for a comedy caper that clearly aims to remind audiences of the humour that once made him a household name.
The makers have kept Funky in the spotlight for a while through quirky promos, and the recently released trailer finally offers a clearer picture of what the film is going for.
The tone is unmistakably Anudeep KV — loud, quirky, slightly chaotic and driven more by punchlines than plot. It is clear from the trailer that the director has chosen to play to his strengths rather than experiment too far outside his comfort zone.
In the film, Vishwak Sen plays a wannabe filmmaker, brimming with ambition but short on practical sense. Kayadu Lohar steps in as a producer, and the story begins when the two decide to make a film together.
Whether this partnership leads them into complete chaos or unexpected romance forms the basic setup. It is a familiar premise, but one that allows room for situational humour and exaggerated characters.
The trailer is sprinkled with moments that longtime fans of Anudeep KV will instantly recognise. The opening and closing portions are packed with quick one-liners, a trademark that worked well in Jathi Ratnalu. Some jokes land neatly and draw a smile, reminding viewers why his humour once clicked so strongly.
Vishwak Sen looks relaxed in the role and fits comfortably into the film’s playful tone. He brings a certain freshness to the character, but it is Kayadu Lohar who stands out the most. She looks effortlessly charming on screen and shares an easy, crackling chemistry with Vishwak Sen, which adds warmth to the otherwise chaotic setup.
That said, not everything in the trailer works equally well. The story itself appears thin, and much of the film seems to rest on punch dialogues rather than a solid narrative spine. While a few moments genuinely click, several jokes feel predictable and slightly stretched, raising concerns about whether the humour can sustain an entire film.
With Funky set to release on 13 February 2026, the film carries more weight than a typical comedy.
