The trailer of Bison, the upcoming Tamil sports drama starring Dhruv Vikram and directed by Mari Selvaraj, has ignited strong reactions online. Released on October 14 ahead of its Diwali theatrical premiere on October 17, the film promises a gripping exploration of sport, caste, and personal struggle in 1990s southern Tamil Nadu.
The trailer opens with haunting black-and-white visuals, the bleating of a goat echoing across a barren landscape, before cutting to a group of young boys playing kabaddi. The tone quickly turns intense as Dhruv Vikram’s character joins the group, establishing kabaddi as both the heart of the story and a symbol of identity and resistance.
Bison marks the first collaboration between Mari Selvaraj and Dhruv Vikram, and the pairing already feels electric. The film follows the emotional journey of a kabaddi player battling societal oppression and personal demons. It also features a strong ensemble cast including Pasupathy, Ameer, Lal, Anupama Parameswaran, Rajisha Vijayan, Azhagam Perumal, Aruvi Madhan, and Anurag Arora.
Pasupathy plays Dhruv’s father, and one key moment in the trailer shows him asking his son to promise never to play kabaddi again, a pivotal conflict that drives the story forward. Dhruv’s character’s refusal to give up his passion sets the tone for a tale about defiance, endurance, and the price of dreams.
Mari Selvaraj, known for Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan, Maamannan, and Vaazhai, once again seems to be blending sport with social commentary. The trailer teases layered conflicts and high emotional stakes while keeping the main plot points tightly guarded.

The film’s technical team adds to the anticipation: music is composed by Nivas K Prasanna, cinematography is by Ezhil Arasu K, and editing by Sakthi Thiru. The project is produced by Pa Ranjith, with Netflix already securing post-theatrical streaming rights.
Dhruv Vikram reportedly trained with professional kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan to bring authenticity to his performance, and fans have praised the raw, rural energy of the trailer.
As Bison readies for its Diwali release alongside Diesel and Dude, early buzz suggests that Mari Selvaraj and Dhruv Vikram might have delivered one of the season’s most powerful and politically charged dramas.
