Arasan promo out: Vetri Maaran and Silambarasan TR reunite for a new chapter in Vada Chennai Saga

Vetri Maaran has finally revealed the first look of his much-awaited film Arasan, the latest addition to his gritty and celebrated Vada Chennai universe. The project stars Silambarasan TR in the lead role and promises to expand the world that Vada Chennai began in 2018. The promo, released on October 17, hints at a layered narrative spanning two timelines, a storytelling style that has become Vetri Maaran’s signature.

In Arasan, Silambarasan plays the same character across two phases of life. In one, he’s a young, carefree man full of attitude and swagger. In the other, he’s an older version of himself—tired, haunted, and accused of three murders.

The promo opens with this older Arasan appearing in court, recounting his life to director Nelson Dilipkumar. In a clever meta twist, he asks Nelson to make a film about his story and even suggests casting Dhanush to play his younger self. The teaser closes with the line, “An untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai,” confirming the film’s place in Vetri Maaran’s expanding cinematic universe.
The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his first collaboration with Vetri Maaran. The promo already gives a glimpse of his score, different in tone from Santhosh Narayanan’s brooding soundscape in Vada Chennai, yet perfectly suited to the emotional depth of Arasan.

The film is produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under the V Creations banner, the same production house behind Vetri Maaran’s Asuran.

Interestingly, Silambarasan was once set to play the lead in Vada Chennai before the role eventually went to Dhanush. That earlier collaboration didn’t happen, but Arasan now brings the director and actor together in a way that feels both fresh and fated.

With its dark tone, courtroom mystery, and strong emotional undercurrents, Arasan seems ready to carry forward Vetri Maaran’s exploration of power, morality, and survival in Chennai’s underbelly. If Vada Chennai was about how men are trapped by circumstance, Arasan looks set to explore what happens when they try to rewrite their own story.
