Allu Sirish breaks stereotypes about men wearing jewellery: “It’s time to embrace Indian style...”

In addition to making headlines for his impending nuptials, Allu Sirish, who recently became engaged to his ladylove Nayanika, is also drawing attention to himself with his daring fashion choices.

The actor wore a sparkling diamond choker and a clean white sherwani in photos from the private ceremony that went viral on social media. The eye-catching accessory attracted attention right away and generated a lively online discussion.

Responding to the buzz with his signature humour, Allu Sirish took to social media to set the record straight. “Hahahaha. Our Telugu memers are too funny! Btw vaddanam is worn only by women but our Indian maharajas & Mughals wore chokers,” he wrote, reminding fans that men wearing jewellery has deep historical roots.

He went on, “‘Chokers are only for women’ is a very western construct. It’s 2025 & high time we break free from such limiting beliefs and fully embrace our Indian style jewellery.”

Sirish even shared a fascinating tidbit of history: one of the world’s most valuable pieces of jewellery, the Khiraj-i-Alam or Timur Ruby, was worn as a choker by Akbar the Great, Shah Jahan, and later Maharaja Sher Singh.

“Infact one of the world’s most valuable jewellery, the ‘Khiraj-i-Alam’ or Timur Ruby, was a choker. It is 352 carat and was worn by Akbar the Great, Shah Jahan and later worn by Maharaja Sher Singh. Later the East India Company stole it & presented it as a gift to Queen Victoria in 1851,” he wrote, highlighting that historically, men’s jewellery has always been a symbol of status and elegance.

In keeping with Telugu customs, the engagement itself took place on October 31, 2025, and was a happy and warm occasion. Allu Sirish gave fans a sneak peek at the romantic day by posting tidbits of the celebration on social media.

It was a lavish Allu-Konidela family celebration, with a star-studded guest list that included Ram Charan and Upasana, Chiranjeevi and his loved ones, Varun Tej and Lavanya, and Allu Arjun and his family.
