The highly anticipated movie Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups, which stars the superstar Yash and was directed by the gifted Geetu Mohandas, is set to mark actor Akshay Oberoi's South Indian film debut.
Akshay, who is renowned for his nuanced and reflective acting, offered some sincere reflections on his experience on the movie and the motivation he received from the director and co-star.
Talking about his time on Toxic, Akshay said it was “amazing.”
As quoted by India Today, he clearly has a lot of admiration for Geetu Mohandas, whose earlier work like Liar’s Dice and Moothon had already impressed him. “I think she’s simply one of my favourite directors I’ve ever worked with. She speaks to me in ways that no other director does. She gets performances out of people that are just spectacular. Her energy is something special,” he said, showing how much their collaboration meant to him.
Working with Yash, a real industry titan, was perhaps Akshay's greatest lesson. “The whole world is a fan of Yash. Working with him, I learnt so much that I realised what was missing in me,” Akshay admitted openly. He spoke about Yash as a “one-man industry” — someone who doesn’t wait for anyone’s approval or opportunities, but creates his own path. “That’s so inspiring.”
He went on, “He’s like, ‘Are you coming with me? Then come. If not, see you later, I’m forging ahead.’ Seeing that, I was just like, ‘Damn, Akshay, if you could capture this ethos and energy that he carries, then no one can stop you either.’ I’ve been really influenced and inspired by him in more ways than one.”

Toxic is reportedly a high-energy action thriller shrouded in mystery, and Akshay kept details under wraps, saying, “I think the less I say about this film, the better. There are a lot of surprises in the film. I really enjoyed my part, and I love doing action, absolutely love it. I really enjoyed all of that.”
Excited by his South Indian cinema experience, Akshay is eager to explore more opportunities in regional films. “Oh my God, please sign me on! Anyone from any of those industries, if you’re hearing or reading this, please, I would love to do a Malayalam, Telugu, or Tamil film. I’ve loved the experience of working in the South, and I hope and pray that I get more work from that part of the country.”
When asked about working in a new language, he said it wasn’t stressful but actually a lot of fun. “I have a flair and joy for languages and accents. It’s a challenge, of course, but it’s a challenge I really enjoy. It comes naturally to me to pick up languages and accents.”
Fans can look forward to Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups hitting theatres in 2026 — and with Akshay’s enthusiasm and fresh perspective, it’s shaping up to be something special.
