The team behind Akhanda 2 sent fans into a frenzy when they finally announced the film’s grand theatrical release for 12 December, with special premieres planned for the day before, 11 December.

The announcement came through 14 Reels Plus, accompanied by a powerful new poster that immediately lit up social media.

Their caption captured the excitement perfectly, β€œAll set for the Divine Destruction at the box office Feel the MASSive power of #Akhanda2 in theatres from DECEMBER 12 with grand premieres on December 11th… BOOKINGS OPEN SOON!”

The poster itself, which has already become a talking point among fans, showcases Nandamuri Balakrishna in a fierce Aghora avatar.

His intense presence, adorned with sacred ash, rudraksha beads, and a blazing staff, suggests the return of the mythic energy and mass elevation that made the first Akhanda a phenomenon. The tagline β€” β€œTHE DIVINE ENERGY SURGES… THE THAANDAVAM BEGINS” β€” promises an even bigger, more dramatic spectacle this time around.

Directed once again by Boyapati Sreenu, Akhanda 2 reunites one of Telugu cinema’s most celebrated combinations.

The first film carved out a cultural moment with Balakrishna’s fiery performance, Boyapati’s unapologetically massive filmmaking style, and Thaman S’s thunderous score. With the trio returning, expectations are understandably soaring.

However, just as fans were gearing up for the big day, a last-minute legal hurdle brought everything to a halt. A dispute between the production company, 14 Reels Plus, and financier Eros International Media Ltd. β€” involving a long-pending arbitration worth approximately Rs 28 crore β€” resulted in an injunction that made it legally impossible to release the film as planned.

The sudden delay stunned fans and distributors alike, especially since the film had been years in the making and was mere days away from release. The setback felt particularly heavy given the scale of investment and anticipation surrounding the project.

Recent reports, however, offer a glimmer of hope. It is said that Balakrishna voluntarily agreed to forgo nearly Rs 20 crore from his remuneration to help resolve financial bottlenecks.

As per reports, Akhanda 2 is among the costliest Telugu productions in recent years, with estimates placing the budget at nearly β‚Ή200 crore.

Balakrishna’s original fee was expected to be around Rs 40–45 crore, a reflection of the film’s scale.
