Ravi Kishan, a prominent actor in the Indian film industry, is currently enjoying the success of his recent projects, Laapataa Ladies and Netflix’s Maamla Legal Hai. However, the actor’s path to stardom was not an easy one. In a heartfelt conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube, Ravi opened up about his tough childhood and the struggles he faced growing up in poverty.

Ravi reminisced about his early days when he lived in a mud hut with his family. He revealed that his upbringing was marked by extreme poverty, stating, “I used to live in a hut made of mud. We had responsibilities, our farm land was mortgaged. I have seen excessive poverty. The kind where one khichdi is shared by 12 people, and that too, after watering it down." This vivid recollection of sharing a plate of diluted khichdi among 12 people paints a grim picture of the hardships he faced as a child. Despite these struggles, Ravi’s resilience and determination have been key in shaping the man he is today.

One of the most striking aspects of Ravi’s story is his acknowledgment of the intense humiliation he experienced growing up. He shared, “I have faced extreme humiliation. People get humiliated a couple of times, I have faced it thousands of times.”

In another candid moment, Ravi spoke about the challenges he faced when he moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting. He recalled, “When I moved to Mumbai, I survived on vada pav and tea, and worked in films for 15 years without decent pay.” This period of his life was marked by struggle and sacrifice, as Ravi worked hard, but his efforts often went unrewarded. However, despite the lack of financial stability, Ravi’s determination kept him going.

Today, Ravi Kishan’s career is a success story that exemplifies resilience and perseverance. His role in Laapataa Ladies, which was India’s official submission to the Oscars, and his lead role in the Netflix series Maamla Legal Hai, which has already been renewed for a second season, reflect his growth as an actor. Yet, despite his fame, Ravi remains grounded. He shared that, even after achieving success, his middle-class mindset still influences him. “I still hesitate to order freely at luxury restaurants because of my middle-class habits,” he confessed. This humble attitude speaks volumes about Ravi’s roots and the challenges he faced in his early years.

Ravi’s journey to stardom was not without setbacks. He also opened up about missing out on a role in Anurag Kashyap’s cult classic Gangs of Wasseypur. According to Ravi, he wasn’t cast in the film due to rumors spread by someone who spoke ill of him to Kashyap. While some of these rumors were true, many were false. Despite this setback, Ravi continued to push forward, never letting negative gossip define his career.
