Ranbir Kapoor is gearing up to play Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s grand mythological epic Ramayana, which has already generated strong buzz with its first look and motion poster. Interestingly, director Anurag Basu recently shared that Ranbir was initially set to star in a biopic on legendary singer Kishore Kumar.
In a candid interview with BBC News, the Metro..In Dino director shared that he was hoping to collaborate with Ranbir but it couldn't happen due to conflict in their schedules and other prior commitments.
Anurag then said, “Haa hopefully. Hum dono toh koshish karte hi rehte hain. Ho nahi raha hai. Woh bhi kar raha hai kaafi saari filmein. (Both of us are trying but it is not happening. He is also doing a lot of films)."
He also stated that Ranbir faced a huge dilemma when he had to choose between Kishore Kumar's biopic and Ramayana. He ultimate chose the latter after much consideration. Anurag also mentioned that he feels Ranbir made the correct choice.
“Ranbir ke paas choice tha life mein. Aur bechare ke paas wo choice itna mushkil tha uske liye. Kishore ya Ramayana. Kaunsa Pehle shuru kare. Bohot tough choice tha uske liye. Aur usne fir Ramayana chuna. I think it was the right decision," said Anurag.

As per reports by Pinkvilla, Anurag Basu has approached Aamir Khan for the much-anticipated Kishore Kumar biopic. The two have reportedly held multiple discussions, with Aamir showing keen interest in Basu's vision, though an official confirmation from the makers is still awaited and details remain tightly under wraps.
Ramayana is set to release in two parts- part 1 in Diwali 2026 and part 2 in Diwali 2027. It also stars an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman among others.
