Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has announced that he will start filming Sarkar 4, the next film in his political crime series, next month. On the first day of the Red Lorry Film Festival, which is organized by BookMyShow, the filmmaker gave an update.

Varma attended a special screening of his cult favorite Shiva at the festival. The director discussed the film's inspirations after seeing it again, pointing out that renowned director Steven Spielberg had an impact on his visual style.

"Spielberg's style of shot-taking definitely informed some of the shots in Shiva," Varma stated. He also admitted that The Way of the Dragon, which starred legendary martial artist Bruce Lee, served as a conceptual inspiration for the film. RGV claims that the concept originated from relocating the main idea of that film to an entirely different location.

The director also thought back on his years of filming. According to Ram Gopal Varma, he ever used bound scripts in his early career. "After I started working with bound screenplays, my films started to fail," he said. "There is very little potential to raise the emotional quotient during the process once you have a set screenplay because you start mimicking the script itself."

When asked about recent films and filmmakers he admires, Varma said he liked Dhurandhar and added that while Spielberg remains his all-time favourite filmmaker, he finds Aditya Dhar to be among the most promising talents from the current generation. Speaking about upcoming projects, RGV confirmed that alongside Sarkar 4, he is also working on another film titled Syndicate. “My film Syndicate will wash all my sins,” he joked, drawing laughter from the audience.
