Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently caught up with director Aditya Dhar and actor Yami Gautam, and the meeting turned into a moment of admiration for the filmmaker currently riding high on the success of Dhurandhar 2.
Sharing a picture with the couple on X (formerly Twitter), Ram Gopal Varma kept things playful yet pointed. Referring to them as a “power couple”, he drew a striking comparison between the film’s lead character and its creator.
He wrote, "ME with the POWER COUPLE. The reel HUMZA @RanveerOfficial destroyed the Pakistani terrorists, and the real HUMZA @AdityaDharFilms is destroying the Indian film makers."
He followed it up with, "Terrorists can run to save their lives, but where will film-makers run to save their films from his brilliance?"

This wasn’t the first time Ram Gopal Varma had expressed his thoughts on Dhurandhar 2. Just a day after its release on 20 March, he had shared a long, unfiltered note that read as both praise and a warning to the industry.
In his words, the film is a wake-up call for filmmakers who continue to rely on formulaic storytelling. He wrote, "The @Dhurandhar2 is a HORROR. It is a horror for all filmmakers who built their careers and their fortunes on dumbed down, over the top cinema. The cinema that demanded the brain to be left at home. The cinema that was rammed down our throats full of LOUDNESS and MASALA which will be now soon on a ventilator struggling for breath."
What seems to have impressed Ram Gopal Varma most is the kind of hero the film presents. Instead of an invincible, larger-than-life figure, the protagonist feels more real—someone who bleeds, struggles and reacts.
Highlighting this shift, he wrote, "#Dhurandhar2 will scare the living hell out of every filmmaker who still worships the godly hero. In #Dhurandhar2, @RanveerOfficial killed all those heroes who never bleed, and never feel pain, and then over the dead bodies of those kind of outdated heroes, he gave birth to a true real hero, flawed, yet dangerous and unpredictable and also his heroism comes from his actions instead of being thrusted upon the heads with ear drum shattering music."
He also took aim at exaggerated action sequences that ignore realism, suggesting that audiences are no longer impressed by spectacle alone. He wrote, "#Dhurandhar2 will terrify those who built their careers on action set pieces where physics is a joke and gravity is non-existent. The scenes where men are thrown fifty feet in the air, bounce off the ground like rubber balls, survive explosions that would vaporise cities, and still deliver punch dialogues while dusting their shoulders will be hunted and killed by the new audience."
For Ram Gopal Varma, Dhurandhar 2 is more than just another hit film—it represents a shift in what viewers expect from cinema today. As he put it, "Dhurandhar 2 is not just a film. It is a verdict."
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film follows Ranveer Singh’s transformation into Hamza Ali Mazari, a complex character navigating dangerous territory.
Backed by a strong cast including Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan and Sanjay Dutt, the film continues to draw both applause and strong box office numbers.
