Shankar’s debut Telugu film, Game Changer, featuring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, failed to meet expectations in several areas. Despite its extravagant budget, the film received criticism for its music by Thaman S and its overall story.
In a recent interview, the music composer blamed the choreographer and the lead actor for the songs' failure, which sparked rumours that Ram Charan had unfollowed Thaman on social media.
A screenshot circulated on X claiming that the actor had unfollowed the composer following the interview. While some questioned the authenticity of the claim, others believed the rumour to be true.
However, a source close to Ram Charan's team dismissed the allegations, telling Hindustan Times, "It’s not true that Ram Charan unfollowed Thaman S because he never followed him on X or Instagram in the first place. He follows very few people on both platforms, mostly family members. This is nothing but a rumour."
After Game Changer's songs failed to make an impact, Thaman adjusted his stance.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, he discussed the viral nature of songs, subtly critiquing the film.
"I always trust it’s not just about the music director. I can pull off 25 million views, but post that, it has to work on Reels. Anyway, I missed that in Game Changer. The dance master has to take the responsibility, and the hero too. None of the songs had a (good) hook-step. If you do it properly, the cameraman will also capture it properly,” he explained.

Ram Charan’s fans were left confused and upset by these remarks, especially since Thaman had previously praised the choreography before the film's release.
On Indian Idol Telugu Season 3, he had stated, “I’ve seen the visuals of the songs, and it’s looking so good. We didn’t release the hook step yet, Prabhu Deva master choreographed the song and it’s such a lovely vibe.”
