Veteran actor Rahul Dev has spoken publicly for the first time about the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the death of his younger brother, actor Mukul Dev. Mukul passed away on May 23, 2025, in New Delhi at the age of 54. At the time, no official cause of death was disclosed, prompting speculation and unverified reports, many of which linked the tragedy to depression.

Now, in a candid interview with The Times of India, Rahul Dev has shed light on what truly happened, putting an end to the swirling rumors. According to him, Mukul's death was not due to any diagnosed illness, but rather the result of a prolonged decline in self-care and emotional withdrawal.

“He was in the ICU for eight and a half days. Medically, it was a result of poor eating habits. In the last four-five days, he had stopped eating altogether,” Rahul revealed. “Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life... He would turn down several work offers.”

Rahul described how Mukul, once active and known for his charm and wit, had gradually become a recluse after moving to Delhi in 2019 to care for their ailing parents. The emotional burden appeared to take its toll. “He became a loner,” Rahul said, adding that his brother’s detachment was not noticed by many. “Only now, after completing all the rituals, is the reality sinking in — and I know the pain will only deepen.”
