Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, may soon be turning their attention to one of the most personal projects of their careers – a Netflix documentary about Princess Diana. The couple, who recently renewed their lucrative deal with the streaming platform, are believed to have discussed creating a film to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death in Paris in 1997.
That milestone will arrive in 2027, and sources suggest Harry’s involvement would be welcomed enthusiastically by Netflix. As one insider told Sun newspaper: “If Harry wants to do this then Netflix will bite his hand off.”
The Sussexes’ new contract is said to give Netflix the first look at their proposals, with production costs handled through their Archewell Productions company. Alongside the potential Diana project, Meghan’s lifestyle programme With Love, Meghan is set to return on 26 August 2025 for a second season, with a festive “holiday special” already planned for December. The couple are also behind a short documentary titled Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, spotlighting the lives of orphans in Uganda.
For Harry, the idea of a documentary about his mother is no ordinary assignment. He was just 12 years old when Diana died, and has often spoken of how that loss shaped his life. He has previously described the grief as “overwhelming and isolating.”
In a touching letter to Scotty’s Little Soldiers – a charity that supports children who have lost parents serving in the military – Harry reflected on his own experience of bereavement. “It can be overwhelming and isolating.
Yet, in the midst of that heartache, we find strength in the love and memories left behind, and I have seen how communities like yours can offer deep comfort and healing,” he wrote.
His words carried both empathy and encouragement: “I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the values that your loved ones instilled in you – courage, compassion, and a sense of purpose. These will serve as your guiding light, helping you navigate the challenges ahead.”
Harry also reminded them that grief is easier carried together: “In coming together to support one another, you not only honour the memories of your loved ones but also forge bonds that can and will carry you through the toughest times… The tears and laughter, the shared experiences, and the moments of joy you create together are powerful reminders that love endures.”
He closed his message with hope: “Your resilience is a testament to the legacy of your loved ones, and I have every confidence in your ability to make them proud and to shine bright in the world. All they want is for you to be happy.”
